HR Boot Camp I – Virtual Training Series (Fall 2026)

DCSI’s HR Boot Camp I is comprised of six 90-minute virtual sessions focused on the foundational HR knowledge that every workplace HR representative, regardless of title, should possess. This essential knowledge serves as the backbone of effective human resources management, helping organizations maintain compliance with employment laws and regulations, protect employees, minimize risk, and foster positive workplace practices. Participants will gain a strong understanding of core HR responsibilities and best practices that support sound decision-making, organizational success, and a compliant, employee-centered workplace. Course objectives include:
HR Compliance & Employment Law
Boot Camp will begin with a “Weigh-In”, with each participant completing an assessment of current HR knowledge. The session will then focus on defining the role of HR in the workplace, with attendees working through scenarios to discuss such compliance topics as:
- EEOC and anti-discrimination laws
- Prevention of harassment in the workplace
- Accommodating disabilities and leaves of absence
Compensation Practices
This segment includes a short discussion on the history of the Fair Labor Standards Act, and its impact on today’s workplace. Administering such Wage & Hour policies as overtime, exempt status, travel pay, breaks and meals, and more are an essential knowledge set for organizational leaders.
- The impact of Wage & Hour laws in the workplace
- Properly paying exempt and non-exempt employees
- Best practices for setting a compensation structure
Recruiting, Training & Hiring
Attendees will work through an interactive session focused on identifying a talent pool and creating an effective interview strategy. In addition, the group will focus on best practices in hiring and onboarding new team members to ensure long-term success.

- Mock interviews and creation of practical behavior-based interview guides
Performance Management
In this session, we discuss best practices for Performance Management. Participants will become proficient in providing coaching and feedback, and master the four parts of the performance cycle. Topics include:
- Employee feedback as a management tool
- Setting clear goals and expectations
- Hands-on performance management activities
Investigations & Terminations
Become skilled at investigating employee issues, safety challenges and policy violations. In this session, we will develop solid practices on:
- Proper steps for employee and workplace investigations
- The value of solid documentation
- Employee discipline and termination
Employee Engagement & Retention
Participants will explore engagement and retention strategies to build a thriving workplace culture, reduce turnover, and drive long-term employee engagement.
- Define the key drivers of employee engagement and retention
- Analyze turnover data and create action plans
- Explore the manager’s role in retention and engagement, with a focus on how HR can empower managers with the necessary skillset
9-hour virtual six-week course on Thursdays: Sept 17, Sept 24, Oct 1, Oct 8, Oct 15, & Oct 22, 2026 from 1:00-2:30 PM ET
Eligible for 9 HRCI/SHRM certification credits.
